2018 Pet Licenses
The City of Thornton requires annual pet license. Iowa State Law requires all canines to be protected with the rabies vaccine.
Proof of vaccination and the City's pet application must be submitted to City Hall before the 1st of May of each year. Owners that do not comply are in violation of the City Code and may be subject to a Municipal fine. Neutered/Spay animals are $5 each, $10 if not. Penalties apply for applications received after May 1st.

Rates per City Ordinance, 3 % increase
The water minimum monthly Service Charge is $15.45 + $3.87 per 1,000 gallons consumed.
The sewer minimum monthly Service Charge is $30.14 + $3.42 per 1,000 gallons (based on water on consumption).
Garbage service is $16.39 per month, customers are allowed 1 - 33 gallon bag/week.
An example bill consuming 5,000 gallons in one month is Water: $15.45 + $19.35 + $2.44 (tax) = $37.24, Sewer: $30.14 + $17.10 = $47.24, Garbage: $16.39 for a total bill of $100.87.
This is an increase of $2.93/month for consumers using 5,000 gallons.

2017-18 Winter Season
the City is asking that vehicles be parked off of streets to allow for proper snow removal this upcoming winter season.
Also remember, it is unlawful to throw, push, or blow any ice or snow from private property, sidewalks or driveways onto the traveled way of streets as it impedes the passage of vehicles upon the streets and may create hazardous conditions. At times it may be necessary in the business district to move snow on to the streets temporarily, such accumulation shall be removed promptly by the property owner or contractor.
