We welcome you to visit the Thornton Pulic Library at 412 Main Street! We are open every M-F from 2 to 6 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Our librarian is Sibyl Jorgensen. Leila Nannenga is assistant.
The Thornton Public Library has an active, helpful board of trustees. Pam Muhlenbruch is President. Barb Hopkey, Dora Lee Terry, Pam Meyer and Julie Bell are also members of the board.
We have a fitness center in the south half of our basement with state of the art pieces of exercise equipment for public use - Free. We are currently holding a core-strengthing exercise class on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. We do floor exercises and resistance band exercises. This class is free, also.
We hold an After School Program on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:40 to 5:30 p.m. in the library basement, for kids from kindergarten thru 5th grade. Rose Markwardt and Heather Koenen supervise the program and do a great job. (They are both teachers). We have daily attendance of 5 to 7 kids. We have snacks, do homework, crafts, have reading time and of course, play games!
During the summer vacation break, we have our Summer Reading Program for the kids. Carrie Andersen (also a teacher) takes charge of this program for us. The program is 5 to 6 weeks, meeting once or twice a week.
We are hoping to begin an adult book club at the library this fall. More details on this to come.
